Artist Statement

Creating art has several processes for me, not only visual but spiritual and emotional with a deep appreciation of nature with its myriad of forms, textures, colors and patterns. I use my personal experiences along with found objects as a source for my paintings. With a strong connection to nature, these found objects motivate me to share this excitement with the viewer. Textures have always been of interest to me, which may partially be related to my past work in stained glass and my experience as a self taught basket weaver. My art is an expression of this connection I have with all organic life and I hope it helps further a respect and appreciation for nature and our natural resources.

Biography

Cynthia Clerc graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After teaching art in Louisiana for several years she moved to Boulder, Colorado where she painted and worked with stained glass. Moving back to Texas she took a break from her art to study Native American Cultures. From this experience she began to weave baskets, collecting her own natural materials. She then started painting again using these organic objects of nature.
